Bill’s Olympique

Posted on

We’re back from our weeks holiday now and it was a pleasure to get back to this nice email from Bill about the renovation of his 1966 Mercian Olympique.

“Dear Grant, Bob and all.
Thank you again for the wonderful paint restoration you did for me. I have now finished the rebuild with the help of my local old school cycle shop that’s run by father and son. Fred is 95 years young and still working with his son Peter. Both talented cyclists back in the day. Please see some pictures below of a very proud owner of his Mercian Olympique. If you would care to post any of them on your website gallery or blog I would be honored. I always wanted to restore the frame as I have had it for nearly 50 years. I used the lockdown period to do something that was positive. It has taken me 8 months and I have enjoyed the journey enormously as it’s been so rewarding. Especially meeting people like Fred and Peter who were brilliant.
Many thanks again and kind regards to you all.

Mercian Olympique
Frame number 38066
Campagnolo nuovo/super record group set.
Mavic E2 Argent rims.
DT Swiss spokes.
Brookes saddle.
Gerry Burgess Bibba stem and handle bars.”

Thank you for your pictures and update William, looks great! Nice mugshot 🙂 Hope you enjoy many happy miles on your ‘new’ 55 year old Mercian.
