Following Mercian’s 80th Anniversary Festival of Steel, we were delighted to welcome Eddie White and Cherie Pridham to our new factory.
Eddie White was a valued founding member of the Mercian-Bantel Team, riding with the team between 1968 and 1979. It was a particular pleasure to welcome Cherie, who took time out of her busy WorldTour schedule as Sports Director of UAE Team L’Imad to join Eddie for the visit.
1946 was a special year: Paul Smith was born in Nottingham, Mercian Cycles was founded in Derby. Paul was a very good cyclist in his youth and rode Mercian bikes - his fondness for Mercian has remained, and the feeling is mutual. To help celebrate our 80th anniversaries, Paul has designed two special limited edition bikes, which were launched at Selfridges in early September.
After many months of effort, and a tremendous grant to help us on our way from Erewash Council, we launched three new eBike models at the end of August.
A great crowd attended our Festival of Steel ride out in August, to help celebrate the 80th anniversary of Mercian. Many thanks to Belper Cycling Club, and Andre Toczek in particular, for helping organise the event and doing a great job on the 4 rides. And a big thankyou to all those who attended the event - we estimate approx 300 people turned up to help us mark the day, but give it a few months and the estimate will have grown to 3000!
Congratulations to Jill Scott for completing her epic 388 mile "Coming Home" challenge, raising almost £500k for Sport Relief! Mercian were proud to help.
We doff a very large cycling cap to Greg James, who finished his 8-day pan-UK challenge in Edinburgh on Friday raising over £4.5mln. What an incredible amount!
After six decades Mercian Cycles workshop has moved.
Through the years there were a number of locations in Derby for the shop, the frame building workshop and sprayshop. But since about 1965 the frame building and painting was taking place at the Pontefract Street workshop.
Framebuilder Tim took the chance to head out on the Ventura All-road bike to go and pick up some dropouts from Bear Frame Supplies. An ideal opportunity to capture some video of the custom steel Ventura out on the gravel trails of the Derbyshire Peak District.
Chris has come up with the goods again. Yet another classic. I love these . The comments in the last post says it all Mr Helms was a genius and will be missed by all in the cycling world.
This has to be the BEST Mercian advert I've seen up to now and I think you will agree. If you have any early adverts like this please send them in I would love to see them. Chris sent me this from his Mercian Flicker site. I will post a like to his site when I can fathom out how to do it.
Jeff got back earlier this week and still is over the moon with the experience.Theres plenty of stories to tell and all good. I have a feeling it will not be long before he is looking at the same scene again.
We are making room for more Mercian frames in the shop and this is one of two Merlin Titanium frames we have to move to make way. ( we also have a track Ridley and Ridley cheeta to move on ). As you can see its a 51.5 cm centre to top Works CR frame and fork. We are selling this on at £1,575.00 plu
I was sorting the old laptop out the other day and found this picture. Its a few bikes we have built for Paul Smith and as you can see where built with Reynolds 531 tubing (I think the anniversary tube set which we still have) and by the way the dots where supposed to be off circle before someone sa
After some spray shop improvements we should soon be able to offer a quicker turn around times on re-sprays. Do not forget its not only Mercian frames we re-finish all manufacturers are catered for. This is just a fill in picture for you all of our shop in Alvaston. I have been so busy just recentl

Thank you Josh. We had a similar picture when Josh ordered his frame earlier in the year outlining the frame finish he would like and now he has it he sent us this picture . We have never seen a picture like it and hope the build goes well. Thank you
Well this is Jeff my work colleague for the past 30 odd years. The picture was taken one day before his trip to Everest base camp . An extreme walking holiday which I'm a bit jealous of I must admit. When he returns he will be officially retired but will be working with us for 2 days a week . So all
