Following Mercian’s 80th Anniversary Festival of Steel, we were delighted to welcome Eddie White and Cherie Pridham to our new factory.
Eddie White was a valued founding member of the Mercian-Bantel Team, riding with the team between 1968 and 1979. It was a particular pleasure to welcome Cherie, who took time out of her busy WorldTour schedule as Sports Director of UAE Team L’Imad to join Eddie for the visit.
1946 was a special year: Paul Smith was born in Nottingham, Mercian Cycles was founded in Derby. Paul was a very good cyclist in his youth and rode Mercian bikes - his fondness for Mercian has remained, and the feeling is mutual. To help celebrate our 80th anniversaries, Paul has designed two special limited edition bikes, which were launched at Selfridges in early September.
After many months of effort, and a tremendous grant to help us on our way from Erewash Council, we launched three new eBike models at the end of August.
A great crowd attended our Festival of Steel ride out in August, to help celebrate the 80th anniversary of Mercian. Many thanks to Belper Cycling Club, and Andre Toczek in particular, for helping organise the event and doing a great job on the 4 rides. And a big thankyou to all those who attended the event - we estimate approx 300 people turned up to help us mark the day, but give it a few months and the estimate will have grown to 3000!
Congratulations to Jill Scott for completing her epic 388 mile "Coming Home" challenge, raising almost £500k for Sport Relief! Mercian were proud to help.
We doff a very large cycling cap to Greg James, who finished his 8-day pan-UK challenge in Edinburgh on Friday raising over £4.5mln. What an incredible amount!
After six decades Mercian Cycles workshop has moved.
Through the years there were a number of locations in Derby for the shop, the frame building workshop and sprayshop. But since about 1965 the frame building and painting was taking place at the Pontefract Street workshop.
Framebuilder Tim took the chance to head out on the Ventura All-road bike to go and pick up some dropouts from Bear Frame Supplies. An ideal opportunity to capture some video of the custom steel Ventura out on the gravel trails of the Derbyshire Peak District.
i've had my custom mercian super vigorelli stolen (serial number 13591). it's a unique bike, and (i think) a complete custom job. it has an aero wedge headtube and the seatstays are joined (see pics). i'm completely gutted, i love this bike.
Not the best photos in the world but I have been in the spray shop today just looking through our Very large collection of old and Vintage transfers so I thought you would like a look at some. Our renovation service can supply transfers if there available for most age of frame. A lot of the very ear
Above is a part Davids Mercian collection of 2000 Prolugless with TT config (56000 miles), 1974 Super Vigorelli (orginal paint & I have 12,000 plus miles plus my brother with more), 2004 Prolugless with 41,000 miles.
Frames are all the same tirangle measurements. 1974 was orginally ordered in
Not the most picturesque of shots but this is a small part of the 29er we are slowly getting together. Its going to be Reynolds O/S 725 and we have no idea to the colour yet. Give it a few months and it should be up and running. Just ready for summer hopefully.
Hi,
as you are running out of photos I thought I would send you this one of my pro lugless which you made for me last year and I built up with campag gear. It's a real stunner as I'm sure you'll agree and it rides like a dream.
Thanks,
Matt, Portslade, East Sussex.
Thank you Matt for your photo sen
At last a Bill ! Well Bill sent this picture in from America towards the middle of last year. He did not sent in much detail regarding equipment etc but it is a Audax and looks like 631 tubing.
I wanted to share some pics of my Mercian Vincitore Special
that I have finally built up. This was built by Derek Land around
2003 just before Reynolds stopped making 531 tubing, and it had been
patiently waiting since that time for me to put to put all the parts
on it. The parts are a great mix o
Mr Glover picked up his Rohloff / Reynolds 853 Strada Special complete bike just before christmas ( and bad weather ) This is his second Mercian and a fan through and through. His other bike is a Rohloff full on touring King of Mercia. This frame has a sportier build. The Frame has been sprayed Ap

really curious to see how it would fit, and I was not disappointed. In
