Following Mercian’s 80th Anniversary Festival of Steel, we were delighted to welcome Eddie White and Cherie Pridham to our new factory.
Eddie White was a valued founding member of the Mercian-Bantel Team, riding with the team between 1968 and 1979. It was a particular pleasure to welcome Cherie, who took time out of her busy WorldTour schedule as Sports Director of UAE Team L’Imad to join Eddie for the visit.
1946 was a special year: Paul Smith was born in Nottingham, Mercian Cycles was founded in Derby. Paul was a very good cyclist in his youth and rode Mercian bikes - his fondness for Mercian has remained, and the feeling is mutual. To help celebrate our 80th anniversaries, Paul has designed two special limited edition bikes, which were launched at Selfridges in early September.
After many months of effort, and a tremendous grant to help us on our way from Erewash Council, we launched three new eBike models at the end of August.
A great crowd attended our Festival of Steel ride out in August, to help celebrate the 80th anniversary of Mercian. Many thanks to Belper Cycling Club, and Andre Toczek in particular, for helping organise the event and doing a great job on the 4 rides. And a big thankyou to all those who attended the event - we estimate approx 300 people turned up to help us mark the day, but give it a few months and the estimate will have grown to 3000!
Congratulations to Jill Scott for completing her epic 388 mile "Coming Home" challenge, raising almost £500k for Sport Relief! Mercian were proud to help.
We doff a very large cycling cap to Greg James, who finished his 8-day pan-UK challenge in Edinburgh on Friday raising over £4.5mln. What an incredible amount!
After six decades Mercian Cycles workshop has moved.
Through the years there were a number of locations in Derby for the shop, the frame building workshop and sprayshop. But since about 1965 the frame building and painting was taking place at the Pontefract Street workshop.
Framebuilder Tim took the chance to head out on the Ventura All-road bike to go and pick up some dropouts from Bear Frame Supplies. An ideal opportunity to capture some video of the custom steel Ventura out on the gravel trails of the Derbyshire Peak District.
Greetings from the USA, please see the attached photos of my new King Of Mercia, which I ordered from International Pro Bike Shop in Bellbrook Ohio back in May, and just took delivery of today. Just got back from a very short ride and I'm thrilled. The bike is my second KoM, the first I sold back in
We had a visit from the lads from Push Cycles ( on twitter @pushcycles ) from left to right Hassan, Mike and Ciaran from London the other day. Pictured here in the workshop with Tim , Derek and yours truly. I have a sneaking feeling they enjoyed the hours spent with us. You will see a few of our f

A Velocita being checked on one of the frame boards. As you see its not quite finished as the rear part of the frame to take the carbon has not been added just yet. The carbon is covered for protection during build. Once this frame part has been added it off to the spray shop for its coats of paint
We would like to welcome our latest dealer Push Cycles
to the Mercian dealer list. All you mad for cycling peeps in the London area should take a look. I'm sure the guys there will give you a very warm welcome. They do have a few frames including a Vigorelli ( our track model ).
I am sending a couple of pictures of my new Mercian. I've now had it out on a number of long rides and countless shorter ones, and I can say that it handles wonderfully! My last ride was around 70 miles with about 6500 feet of climbing. The bike is very responsive, yet never harsh. One 3-mile se
We have a picture here which Derek ( one of our frame builders ) sent me of his green garden machine. As you can see he seems very proud of his garden exhibit. Its a old Raleigh with baskets made by Derek to take the flower pots. It looks great and might pinch the idea myself.
Hi Kate

My Audax Special, Veloce-equipped (which I purchased from you in 2003) in the snow at Market Rasen as part of Sustran's NCN1 ride at Easter 2008. The snow begain to thaw at midday and I was able to ride over the Wolds to Barton on Humber where I camped again. It certainly was cold but the bike was f
This is 'Mouse', my King of Mercia touring bike bought at the tail end of 2008. I took this just yesterday on a quick but tiring ride in the hills around Lancaster, you can see Morecambe Bay and the Lake District in the background. I've kitted the bike out to be as traditional as possible, but not
Hi Guys,
I've just got back into cycling after a 30 year gap, and looked up this photo.
Sorry it's not great quality, but it's me in around 1975 (at the age of about 14/15) as a keen schoolboy cyclist with the bike I'd just put together, obviously with one of your frames! Hugely proud as you can
Leigh sent me this photo somewhere in the middle of nowhere. All is going well besides a few punctures. You can follow him on the 360 link found on this blog. Below is a small excerpt from his letter.
