Frame Building & Painting
At Mercian Cycles, nestled in the heart of Derby and forging cycles with unmatched artisan skill since 1946, our Repairs & Renovations service is rooted in decades of craftsmanship and pride
Whether you're looking to freshen up a cherished Mercian or breathe new life into a timeless steel, our workshop treats every project with meticulous attention. From truing wheels and fine-tuning gears to deep frame restoration and repainting, we tailor our approach to preserve the character and performance of your bicycle - ensuring it looks and rides like new.
One of the great advantages of steel is its durability. A well-crafted steel frame can be repaired and restored over decades. This resilience means that your hand-made Mercian bike is not just built for today, it’s crafted for a lifetime. Let our craftsmen restore your steel ride to its former glory, ready to be passed down to future generations.
From small or major frame repairs, to full resprays and bespoke finishing touches – see our examples below of recent renovations & costs. For a full price list see renovation prices
We will take care of your steel bike, using time-honoured techniques like hand brazing and open-hearth craftsmanship to retain structural integrity and aesthetic charm. Whether restoring a beloved family heirloom or giving your bike a fresh look, we treat every frame as a canvas and a legacy - ready for many more adventures. To get started, simply reach out via email or phone to discuss your project.
